Authority courses — Twin Lakes 6100 Clifton Road, Clifton, (703) 6319099, and Greendale, 6700 Telegraph Road, Rose Hill: For the beginning golfer or one who likes reasonable rates, Fairfax County offers two nice public courses, Twin Lakes and Greendale. Both offer a variety of tees to fit the golfer’s skill level with green fees for 18 holes at just $24 to walk, $48 to ride on the weekend.
•Goose Creek, on Route 7, east of Leesburg, (703) 729-2500: Like Herndon, for the money, it’s tough to play a better course. Up and down over hill and dale, and those are just the greens! Billy Casper Golf Management has done a wonderful job of providing the customer with a comfortable setting for an economical price.
