Several of Virginia’s bestloved racehorses suffered fatal falls during the past eight months of steeplechasing. A variety of reasons contributed to their injuries, but bad luck seems the single connecting factor in the unfortunate deaths.
Circuit Bar fell last fall at St. James, Wise One fell hard at Strawberry Hill in April, Thunderstone broke down at Farmington-Keswick, S.S. Gold Crest broke down at Middleburg, Favor Ben and Delightful Marine were hurt in hunter paces, Sweet Score collapsed at Airlie, and Too Gold suffered an attack of colic.
