Drive, Sterling (703) 4504655: One of the best recently built courses is Brambleton in Ashburn. Opened in 1994, the 6,426yard layout features midlength but narrow that are in great condition. Brambleton is the perfect complement to Algonkian in Sterling. Green fees are $23, weekdays and $27, weekends.

Known for its long holes, Algonkian is open enough to allow some errant shots and, despite heavy play, maintains very nice greens. Green fees: $20 weekdays, $24 weekends.
