•Virginia Opera, 9840 Main St., Fairfax, (703) 352-7515: Regarded as one of the nation’s best regional opera companies, it ranks 15th in size among the 124 American and Canadian opera companies in Opera America. It is known for presenting America’s finest young singers and for the musical and dramatic integrity of its productions. The “official opera company of the commonwealth,” it hosts performances in Fairfax, Richmond and Norfolk. Fairfax performances are conducted at George Mason University’s Center for the Arts.
