Polo season opens

•IWIlight Polo at Great Meadow, season opens June 5 and continues through the end of September, Great Meadow, The Plains, (540) 2536001: Opening match with international theme of “South of the Border* will feature a high-goal match between the region's top players from Argentina and the United States, Latin-American food and music. Ongoing international series will also pit teams from England, Scotland and the United States. Twilight Polo matches are played every Friday from 7 to 11 p.m. with a warm-up game followed by a high-goal match. Spectators will also enjoy live bands, food and wine and equestrian entertainment tied to popular themes. Called “hockey on horseback,” these arena polo games are played in an open-air stadium roughly twice the size of a hockey ring. Tickets cost $15 per car at the gate.
