Steeplechase horseman Donald Yovanovich is still involved in the game, a full 20 years after his Virginia Gold Cup triumph aboard Navy Davy. A report in the May li, 1978 issue of this paper included a long story about Navy Davy’s “win of attrition” as one of but four finishers from nine starters in the fourmile race. The winner “tagged along at the rear [of the field, staying out of trouble, no doubt] until the second last fence,” the account reads. Mrs. Ernest Scott of Pennsylvania owned Navy Davy. He had fallen a week previous in the Maryland Hunt Cup.
