Reported in the May 8,1958 Fauquier Democrat, Mrs. Henry Obre’s Coup de Vite impressed more than 8,000 spectators at the old Broadview race course in Warrenton. The 12-year-old bay gelding won by a short nose from runner-up Coit. The page one story said that Coup de Vite was not a surprise winner as he had been the leading timber horse of 1957. Coit and Coup de Vite “appeared to be teamed in an invisible harness.”

The May 9, 1968 Democrat carried a long report about the Upperville victory of Mrs. Theodora Randolph’s Walrus in the 43rd running of the Gold Cup. The front-running win was by 22-lengths over Hunters Risk. Randolph’s Bon Nouvel also won the day’s hurdle feature. Bon Nouvel was favored to-win that day; he was the 1965 National -Steeplechase Association champion.
