Describing herself as “volunteer dependent,” elementary school principal Tupper asked, “How can I really express how much I appreciate you and still be brief?” Makela also commented on the group’s “incredible effort.” Nearly 2,500 documented unpaid hours were contributed by the community over the past year. Hundreds more were not officially recorded. “Some of my best volunteers are the worst offenders in not signing my record book,” explained Makela.
School volunteers come from every walk of life and include many prominent members of the community. “Everyone’s contribution counts, even if only one hour, one day a week,” Makela said recently. To join, call the school board office, 987-8773.
