It was at this time hunting became the sport of the elite. They wore fancy coats and called themselves gentlemen. It was a great sport; hanging the hungry and killing the animals.
Women started riding to the hounds about 1850. It was not approved by gentlemen. Just as today where the gentlemen do not want women in the military. Killing things should be only a gentleman’s occupation.
Women persisted and they slowly got into the business with certain limitations. The first rule was they could not wear comfortable or practical clothing. The second rule was they could not ride astride but had to perch precariously side-ways. The gentlemen decided this.
