The Holland&Holland World Timber Championship challenge trophy and a $100,000-added money bonus will be awarded to the horse winning both the MercedesBenz Virginia Gold Cup (along with the winner’s share of the $40,000 purse) and the Holland & Holland Marlborough Cup (with its purse of $30,000.)
The Gold Cup is contested over a demanding four-mile course of 23 4-foot fences. The Marlborough race is run over three miles and 18 fences. The Marlborough course, located about an hour southwest of London in Wiltshire, is a long, gradual uphill climb from start to finish. No fence is jumped twice. The course includes two open ditches (with the ditch on the take-off side of the jump.)
