The initial Trash Free Rappahannock clean-up campaign contest results are in and the winners, by a very slim margin of bags, tires and miscellaneous tossings of our consumer culture, are “The Trash Vultures From Mars", otherwise known as Andrew Kohler, Sebastian LaPelch and Umberto LaPelch. They picked up 94 VDOT issue orange plastic bags of roadside trash in addition to their other findings which didn’t quite fit the bag format. Their first place award is $300.
Their very close competitors, with 85 bags and grunge galore, were the “Quasimodo’s of Quaintance Road”, Barney and Mary O’Meara and Steve Kenny. Their second place award is $200. In third place were Jane Mullan and 4 the Hearthstone School Cooperative. They tallied in with 48 bags and also had numerous unbaggable extras. Their third place award is $100. Benefitting from the “Ventures” gleanings (at $2 per bag) will be Cub Scout Pack 123. The “Quasimodos” earmarked their bagged bucks for Headwaters, and the Hearthstone team split their winnings between their Hearthstone HpmeSchool Cooperative and PrujeCT Reinbow. i Honorable mention for their efforts W> clean the community in a big way /with twenty bags or more include t Susan BuUn and the Berry children.
