As Webster’s definition implies, naturopathy is a means of maintaining health and treatment of disease through the use of noninvasive, natural methods. Kathy Edwards’ practice does just that. She focuses upon promoting the body’s ability to heal itself—to ensure that it is provided with proper nutrition, exercise, and has the ability to cope with stress. Kathy does this, not by diagnosing ailments, but by teaching clients how to maintain their physical, emotional and mental states in optimum condition to make certain that the body can use its innate healing ability to full advantage.
The Greek roots of the word doctor mean teacher. Kathy says that that is just what a naturopath is—not a healer so much as one who teaches others to learn to let their bodies heal. She and her colleagues are perhaps the modern embodiment of Hygieia, the Greek goddess of health, whose wisdom said
