Tbmblin hopes to put what he has learned in the past two years about the late model division to good use in 1999.

“The past year was a lesson in consistency. We were hot or cold, nothing in between. I think we had that sophomore jinx thing.”

Having started over from scratch in July, 1996, Ibmblin says he’s proud of what his team has accomplished in that time. His father and brother helped him purchase the #41 and other friends and businesses in Clarke County have chipped in to sponsor him.

Sponsors include the family business, Triple J Convenience Store, H.B. Lloyd Realtor, Poe’s Home Improvement and Body Art Tatoo Parlor.

Tomblin says the number for his race car was chosen for him.

Drivers get to pick their own numbers. In late 1992, Tomblin compiled a list of Winston Cup car numbers, “just the guys I liked,” and began asking friends to look down the list and tell him which number they liked best for his car.

“Six out of eight said Number 41.”

Shortly after that, Tomblin was working on a friend’s car one Sunday and, when they got hungry, he decided „ to order a pizza.

He called Mario’s Restaurant in Berryville and placed the order, and the young man who took it told him his pick up number was, you guessed it, 41.

“When he said that, I about fell over!”

And the Tomblin crew has been “41 Racing” ever since.
