she was “too stressed out that I was going to mess this guy’s car up,” but she later conceded “there was a little thrill to it.”

There was more than a little thrill when DeLozier first raced on asphalt. That year he scored two victories in Old Dominion’s Speedway Sportsman division and took the championship home.

The following year he raced on the Mid-Atlantic Modified Tour.

“I really like that,” DeLozier said. “I liked going to a different track each week, and the families really got close. They were your friends, you saw them each week.”

His friends watched in horror when the tour came to Old Dominion and DeLozier was involved in an accident in which his car caught fire. Cathy DeLozier said that accident was one of the worst things she has seen happen
