• Trainer Willie O’Neill Jr., 56, died Jan. 7 in Florida. O’Neill was a mainstay at the Belvoir training center and track near The Plains.
• Horseman George Hensile Comer died Jan. 2 at the age of 89. He was a longtime employee of Court Manor Farm in Newmarket, Foxcroft School in Middleburg and Rokeby Farm in Upperville.
• Horace Elbert Wines, 67, died Dec. 18 in Winchester. The Warrenton horseman was a decorated U.S. Army veteran and a longtime member of the Charles Tbwn Races thoroughbred community.
• Upperville’s Erskine Bedford died Dec. 6 following a fall when riding with the Piedmont Foxhounds. He was joint master of the local pack.
