The course is usually ridden early on the day of competition by a pair of host hunt members, to best equate a proper hunting pace over the exact footing and weather conditions found on pace day.
Year-end points are accrued for the seasonal competition. Prizes are given in adult optimum time, junior optimum time and adult fast time. Several hunts also offer unsanctioned “hilltoppers” divisions for non-jumping riders. This division is often utilized by horsemen to train newcomers to the hunt field (equine and human.)
