“I think she had a hard time before the hounds started hunting, but now they know that she helps find the fox. She rings me up after every hunt and tells me where they’ve been. I tell her nothing or very little. Sometimes she tells me what she’s done and asks what I would have done, but every huntsman has their own way of doing things,” Cockbum said.
Cockbum also wants to get reacquainted with the pack. “I don’t know any of the puppies that are going to be entered next year, and it’s very difficult when you’re in a car or van looking at the hounds. What I want to do in the end, when I get my arms stronger, is get a pony and a cart so I can go with the hounds when they’re exercising them. If I can get on all right with that, I can hilltop [from a cart] next year.”
