Photo courtesy of the Virginia Historical Society The old Fauquier White Sulphur Springs Club near Warrenton was a booming resort from the early 1830s to the Civil War. Hurdle races were held at the resort’s nearby Victoria Race Course. The club later became the Fauquier Springs Country Club, still in existence. Steeplechase racing was popular in the 19th century among farmers, military men and the betting public.
