Old-fashioneds are open to the spectating public free of charge, and entry fees for riders are nominal. The only “rule” to the game is that the “natural country must not have been tampered with,” for instance a gate opened when it was originally shut. Otherwise, the race is left to be won, or lost, by horse and rider bravery.
