ty of room. They’d always wanted horses and this was their chance. They got three horses. Leslie soon decided she wanted to learn how to train her horse and found people to teach her how to do that. As is so often the case in the horse world, word of mouth did the rest. Friends were impressed with her work with her horses and asked for her help with theirs. They were pleased with the results and passed her name on to other people. It wasn’t long before they added the “Charm School for Horses” to what they do at Mystic Dream.
Leslie has trained under John Lyons, a worldrenowned trainer who was himself a student of Kenny Harlow. In 2002 Leslie finished her certification. That was the culmination of a year’s worth of work. But it’s paid off in the results she’s seen from her own animals as well as her success in helping other horses and their owners. When someone hugs you and cries with joy because “they’ve got their horse back” you know you’re doing something important.
As with most trainers of just about any kind of animal, Leslie will tell you that really most of file training work needs to be done with the humans. Training the horses is the easy part!
The Andalusians are here because Mike and Leslie fell in love with the breed. Leslie says it’s their temperament that drew her to them. And it’s clear that these are very affectionate, cooperative horses. As soon as Tm approaching there’s a line up of Andalusians waiting to greet me. Andalusians are an ancient breed originating in Spain when Philip II decided to create the perfect breed of horse.
