Despite shortening the length of summer jump racing at Colonial Downs this season, the fields were quite generous and a few new names were added to the bst of possible stakes horses for the fall season.
Working with the National Steeplechase Association, Colonial Downs’ officials decided this year they would hold only four Sundays of jump races, with two races on each day. This enabled horses to get a rest between Sundays and increased the fields in each of the races on those days.
Middleburg trainer Doug Fout took advantage of his nearest major track and had two wins this season. The bettors knew what they were looking at when the I^nnsylvania-bned Dark Equation entered the $20,000 optional claiming race July 1, as they quickly installed him as favorite.
