Some point-to-point meets continued stuffing boxes with cut cedar a few years after the national fence was introduced — arguably to save the cost of renting a set of national fences, but today, all meets have come on board. Fence rental is underwritten by a memorial fund left by a steeplechase supporter.
A new division of jump racing was introduced in the mid-1990s — termed the “steeplethon,” a few courses (namely Glenwood Park in Middleburg and Great Meadow in The Plains) built specialty courses that test jumping ability and bravery.
