Early in Tuesday night’s match against Luray, Rappahannock County High School head volleyball coach Scott Wilde called timeout.
Sure, the Lady Panthers won the first two games of the non-district match, and even an early 6-1 deficit in the third game should not have bothered them.
But Wilde did not take any chances.
“Sometimes,” Wilde said, “you just call a timeout to change the momentum. We were trying a new rotation. We made an adjustment. We had people out of place, but the girls knew what they needed to do.”
That one-minute was exactly what Rappahannock needed to regroup to post a 25-9,25-19,2520 win over the Lady Bulldogs and run their record to 7-0 tins season.
“We couldn’t get a pass up (before the timeout),” senior hitter Elena Kritter said. “We were going with a new lineup that we were going to practice Monday, but...”
But {dans (hanged Monday afternoon when junior Megan Wheatley injured her ankle. The coaching staff needed to attend to Wheatley, and the new rotation never saw much court time.
