Masters’ attorney, Mark Willi ams, told the judge when askec why Masters changed his plea.
County Attorney Petei Luke noted that the plea was also part of an agreement ir which Masters will not face a charge carrying a mandatory minimum sentence in ar upcoming trial for separatt breaking and entering anc theft charges. Masters was convicted in 2001 of felony breaking and entering, grand larceny and destruction of property charges for his involvement ir trashing Montpelier, a historic mansion in Sperryville. He was sentenced to five months in jai] and placed on three years supervised probation.
At the trial Thursday, Masters was accused of breaking into Rappahannock County High School and stealing school property at some point between Saturday afternoon and Monday morning on the weekend 01 July 7,2006.
Scott Schlosser, who teaches shop at the high school, testified that he arrived at school around 9:30 a.m. on Monday July 10.
“I thought first thing ‘Where’s my large blue tool box?”’ he said.
The toolbox, full of tools, he said, weighed about 350 to 40C pounds. He estimated aboul $3,000 worth of tools were stolen from the shop room.
