Signs for sale Die Castieton Community Volunteer Fire Company will be selling 911 address signs Saturday at the Laurel Mills Store, located at 461 Laurel Mills Road (Route 618) in Castieton. The reflective metal plates are 6 inches wide by 18 inches tall and have numbers that are 3 inches tall. The cost for a sign is $15. The plates have numbers displayed on both sides and are faderesistant so they will last for years. The signs are made of aluminum and have pre-drilled holes for easy installment on mailboxes and posts. For more information, call the fire company at 937-4115 or Sharon and Raul Komar after 6 p.m. at 937-5225. their addresses in a way that is visible to emergency responders. “We’re having such a problem finding houses, especially at night,’’ Komar said. “It’s something that is desperately needed in the county to have the houses marked, not only on the main roads but also an the lanes.” The signs are a fundraiser for the Castieton fire company, but that’s not the squad’s main goaL The most important part of this project, Komar said, is that it benefits the people who will need help from emergency responders. Komar said the Castieton department has had one situation where they had difficulty finding a house and the person died. She is not sure if the delay led to the person’s death, but it strengthened her resolve to educate county residents about the importance of dearly marking their addresses.
