Burke said house numbers should be easy to see from both directions on the road. The digits should be 3 inches tall and contrast with the sign or mail-, box’s background.
New homes built in the county are required to have an addreSvS marked in that way. Some older homes built before the requirement was adopted as a national standard about five years ago do not have addresses marked clearly.
“The building code’s taking care of all the new stuff but it’s the older ones that present a problem,” Burke said. He added that staff persons at the County Building Office often mention the issue to landowners when out for building inspections.
