Funding team
hopes to reduce
taxpayer burden
It’s not budget season, but the School Board nonetheless delved into funding issues at its meeting Tuesday, Sept. 4.
Rappahannock County Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Bob Chappell and School Board member Wes Mills eagerly relayed details from the new Rappahannock County and School Funding Team’s first meeting the night before. The team is tasked with increasing state funding for Rappahannock County government and schools, and consists of Dr. Chappell, County Administrator John McCarthy, and members of the School Board and the Board of Supervisors.
In a press release, county and school officials indicated that the funding team agreed to seek additional state funding for Rappahannock public schools. Officials noted in the press release that property values, which are used to determine the amount of state funding a school district will receive, are relatively high in Rappahannock
