Administrator John McCarthy, Sophie Scruton wrote that opening Montpelier as a venue will make it accessible to more people and also raise money to help pay for the mansion’s ongoing restoration and maintenance costs.
Planners talked informally about the Scrutons’ idea at their July meeting. Commissioners spoke favorably of the proposed use as something that would be good for Rappahannock.
