A draft of the letter asks for assistance in increasing federal funding for Rappahannock County public schools. It notes that state funds cover less than 25 percent of educational costs, and highlights the near complete lack of corporate tax revenue in Rappahannock County.
“The Rappahannock County School Board, Board of Supervisors, and our taxpayers already feel overwhelmed by having to try to make up the difference for inadequate state funding,” the letter states. “We urgently need your assistance and that of the Congress of the United States...”

enrollment drops
Rappahannock County public schools lost 43 students this year, according to figures present at the School Board meeting. Rappahannock County Elementary School enrollment dropped from 553 students to 550, and Rappahannock County High School enrollment dropped from 981 students to 941.
