Laing actually won the 1933 Maryland Hunt Cup, on Marion duFont Scott’s Troublemaker. In 1934 Laing rode Troublemaker again over the fearsome, 5-foot course The horse made a bobble at the big 13th fence, impaling himself on a jagged rail He finished third that day but died from bis injury; Scott never sent her colors over timber again. Her former course at Montpelier has no timber course because of that incident
