Rouse had taken the bit in his teeth the winter before: while out foxhunting with Pennsylvania horsewoman Betty Bird in Ireland, he was introduced to a Lard Harrington.
Harrington was reputed to have designed a new, artificial hurdle, something he'd created to help cut labor costs fin* building the point-to-point course for his home hunt. Rouse visited his Limerick stable, where the plastic-steel contraption was housed.
"I could see the possibilities immediately," Rouse said.
