The price of the RCHS renovation project would go up $467,302 if the new gymnasium is built of bricks and mortar, according to figures supplied by the project architect.
At their request, superintendent Robert Gstabrook brought figures to School Board members last week to show how much more a brick building would cost. The current project proposal calls for a pre-fabricated metal building estimated to cost $621,684. The outside would be faced with brick to a height of eight feet.
The new gym is to be placed behind the high school where the modular units now stand. Those units would be moved to the elementary school; the present gym would be remodeled to house the new auditorium.
Building a brick gym would raise the total renovation cost from $836,475 to $1,303,777, Estabrook said. The school board took this information under advisement.
