Early one recent Sunday morning, in the cold and dark, Carl was once again on the scene of an awful accident. But this time the tragedy was shockingly different. Carl himself was the ironic victim, pinned inside his' pickup truck, crushed head-on by one of two senseless drivers who decided to use a dangerous stretch of rural road as a race track. Carl was the unfortunate third party trapped in the middle and now lays broken and struggling in Fauquier Hospital— a cruel reward for his years of dedicated work in the difficult business of saving lives.
