Bull Run District basketball all-star Clarence Pendleton will be back after making it to state last year in the high jump. He’ll also be stretching the tape in the triple and long jumps.
JV basketball standout Thomas Rector will be right there with Clarence in the jumps and will also race in the relays. Spieker described the track newcomer as a natural athlete. “He’s been doing just great so far,” she added.
Jimmy Freeman, a consistent placer in thehigh and intermediate hurdles, will race again in those events. Chris Caperton will also be returning to run the 200. Last year, he was a regular placer in the quarter mile race and mile relay, the coach noted.
In the 800 relay, Spieker is looking to Wayne Woodard for leadership. “He’s our only returning relay runner and a real good sprinter,” the coach said.
For the first time in years, the girls’ track team will number fewer members than the boys’ squad but Spieker noted that the girls will be shooting for quality. She has several talented returnees and a newcomer with impressive athletic
