On February 27. 1963. hitting ace Mickey Mantle signed a new contract with the New York Yankees providing him with a $100,000 a year salary. The sum was $9S,900 greater than what had been offered when he first joined the team in 1949 and put Mantle in the ranks of the select few baseball players to command that kind of money—Willie Mays of the Boston Red Sox and Stan Musial of the St. Louis Cardinals.

On February 26, 1941, boxers Pat Carroll and Sammy Secreet battled each other in a bout that ended in a double TKO. Referee Clarence Rosen called the fight because the two combatants were both judged too beaten up to continue.
