through his files at Channel 4 they chose Wingfield to help fill out their network of weather watchers.
Wingfield says he will be happy to fill out all the forms that go with the honor. “I’m happy to do so,” he says, “because it’s a nice hobby.”
Wingfield thinks he was selected due to his intense interest in studying weather conditions, his collection of complicated equipment and his location. A weather watcher in Sperryville will fill out the range of weather statistics being reported to the National Weather Service.
Wingfield’s severe weather reports will be among those from other areas which help the service decide when to issue appropriate warnings to areas that may be affected by arriving storms, Wingfield said.
