There are two places cameras don’t belong: in a courtroom during a trial and in an auditorium during the run of a play.
We would like to address the second case this week. It became a matter of concern during Don Bombergeris Shakespearian fantasy last fall. The exploding flashes sporadically devasted the gossamer fairy-land lighting effects that Bomberger had worked so meticulously to create.
These sudden brilliant bursts of light totally destroyed “the suspension of disbelief”, which is, after all, what attending the theater is all about. Audience members cannot truly believe they have entered the land of Shakespearian lovers when they are abruptly and frequently brought back to reality by said cameras.
