A motion by Nancy Reeve, supported by Randall Updike to add the 7Vi percent to the bottom line was approved unanimously.

Administrators, Too

A motion from Randall Updike supported by Paul Nichols to increase salaries for the rest of the school employees by 7 Vi percent passed on a 3-2 vote. Oliver and Reeve voted against the percentage because earlier in the evening, the board had approved a 5 Vi percent

Administrative positions include the superintendent, assistant superintendent, principals, assistant principals and special services coordinator. It didn’t seem fair to single them out at 5Vi percent when everyone else was getting 7Vi percent, said Reeve.

Oliver agreed that 6 Vi was comparatively low, but pointed out that people in such positions start out with a higher base and don’t need such a high percentage. “I think we have perpetrated an inequity,” he said, however, moving to resind the 5Vi percent increase. His motion was unanimously approved.
