Discus thrower Marie Davis will be back after an outstanding season last year capped by a third place at state.
Two of Rappahannock’s “fast four", the relay contingent that swept so many district meets last year, will again be taking off with the starter’s gun. Veterans Kathryn Davis and Raynetta Gheen will be running in 1984 with Shannon Watton, last year’s alternate, and Ann Tupper, who formerly competed at middle distances, in the 800 relay. They’ll team up with Shannon and Kelly Bristol in the 400 relay. Both Raynetta and Kathryn will also compete in the long jump and sprints.
In distance events, veterans Ann Oliver and Karen Ludwick, who ran cross country earlier this year, will give the Lady Panthers a chance at breaking the tape.
Coach Spieker is also looking to newcomer Karen Jordan for help in bringing the ribbons and medals back to Rappahannock. First team for Bull Rim District in girls basketball for the past two years as a freshman and sophomore, Karen will switch her speed and leaping ability to the track for hurdle races. “She’s an outstanding athlete,” the coach said.
