Rappahannock’s substitute teachers are “at the high end among the Piedmont schools,” Estabrook told the board. He reported that local substitute teachers with college degrees make more money than their colleagues in neighboring Culpeper and Fauquier counties.
Randall Updike moved to fund the substitutes at the current level for the coming year. This motion supported by Reeves was unanimously approved.
The board also endorsed a 6Vi percent increase for the school psychologist. The psychologist is not a school employee, Estabrook explained, but rather a contracted part timer. The psychologist spends approximately §H days a week In the schools. Ine allotment for these services during the current year is $10,063.
A fulltime custodian who is not on contract will be able to sign on the dotted line next year. The board approved Estabrook’s request to place the custodian on contract so the worker could participate in fringe benefits offered to the system’s other full time employees.
