Banding Program
The Bureau of Plant Protection and Pesticide Regulation of the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services will begin taking applications immediately for summer employment in the 1984 Gypsy Moth Banding Program.
The work involves placing gypsy moth larval burlap bands on trees in a pre-determined grid and keeping survey records for those bands. Each person will usually be working alone in an assigned geographic area and will be expected to meet banding deadlines. All persons will be familiarized with the gypsy moth program and trained in band placement, map reading, record keeping and other administrative mattere prior to starting the actual work.
Since the job involves driving, outdoor work, hiking, map reading and working alone, employees must have a valid drivers license, be in good health, have some map reading ability and be able to work alone.
Tentative dates of employment are May 21 through June 29 (six weeks) and the rate of pay is $3.92 per hour. Workers must have their own vehicles and will be paid mileage.
Three positions are planned for the Culpeper - Warrenton area, two for Luray area and nine for Fredericksburg. Applications are available at the Extension Office.
