• Donkeys May Bray The Answer
Donkeys may provide an answer to the longstanding question of how to protect Virginia’s 190,000 sheep from dog attacks, reports Birgitt Thornhill, Rappahannock County extension agent.
According to Mrs. Thornhill, animal specialists at VPI are using donkeys to patrol two animal-research stations in the state, and the results are encouraging.
The reason: Donkeys simply don’t like dogs. "They chase them. They bray. They do just about anything they can to get rid of them,” says VPI Sheep Specialist Steve Umberger.
• Community Caroling Dec. 23
The community youth group, which is sponsored by the Washington Baptist and Trinity Episcopal Churches, have set Sunday, December 23 at 7 p.m. as the date and time to go caroling in the Town of Washington.
Individuals and families are encouraged to join the singing, which will begin at the Washington Baptist and culminate with refreshments at Trinity Episcopal. "All you need to bring is a flashlight and a warm voice," Reverend Steve Seoggin says.
