The vigorous opposition of the Concerned Citizens of Rappahannock County (CCRC) to the proposed location of the county dump would ring a lot truer if it were not regularly accompanied by a plea that the county's present dump site be upgraded and expanded. This, CCRC claims, would have “far smaller....impact on the character, environment and tax base” of the county.
I have no idea where the CCRC gets this notion, and can only conclude that CCRC has no idea where the dump is. The dump is now situated next to our farm, having been placed there, over our protestations, in 1977 pursuant to a two-year permit. Itis in one of the loveliest sections of ithe county. It has been, and remains, a corruption of the surrounding land and its uses. Further, it is on land that drains into our pond and into our water supply. It has undoubtedly affected property values, as CCRC suggests,
