ues, nappanannocK elementary School Librarian Lucia Kilby looks forward to teaching children what reading-and a good library-can do for tfwm.
Mrs. Kilby has been a ftiU-time librarian at the elementary school since it opened in 1968. She emphasizes ftilltime because for years she spent one half of her day as a librarian and the second half as a seventh-grade teacher. She has been employed by the Rappahannock School System since 1960, although she worked at home raisihg her two children between 1968 and 1962, and only substitute taught between those years.
She believes teaching provides an excellent background for becoming a librarian. She adds that she enjoys being a librarian more than being a teacher, too.
Typical Is Atypical
Mrs. Kilby's typical day would seem atypical to most teachers: As a librarian, she works with children grades kindergarten through seven every school day.
