The Barrens already have recouped nearly one-third of their investment in solar systems via state and federal tax credits that knocked $2,800 off their taxes last year. In real dollar terms, Marshall believes the government help pay $1,000 of the $3,500 investment.
So far, the Barrens exude nothing but warm feelings about their dream home. Pearl’s biggest concern-that the earth-berm feature of the house may cause dampness - has not surfaced.
