Based Upon Own Design

The Barrons’ home is based upon a design Marshall drafted while in college earning a degree in civil engineering. Marshall laughs as he reveals his original blueprints, complete with swimming pool, etcetera, etcetera. “Well, it’s not quite everything I wanted,” he admits.

Even though financial realities made quick pragmatists out of the Barrons, they’ve still managed a jump-start on the entire dream package, beginning with a simple, functional and affordable solar design.

The couple says this was accomplished primarily through the expertise and cooperation of builder-contractor David Batchelder, who also lives in Amissville. “We told him the type of house; he took it from there,” Marshall recalls.

The Barrons lived in Fauquier County in 1980 when they purchased the “almost six-acres” that now hoists their home. ,The couple 'began in 1982 to look for someone who would build what they wanted. Marshall says he saw Mr.
