The decision of the supervisors to go ahead with plana to pay for engineering studies of the proposed sanitary-landfill site on Route 621—the Margohs tract—poses a threat to every taxpaying property owner in Rappahannock County. We urge all taxpayers, for the sake of their own pocketbooks, to take a close look at the exorbitant price tag on this plan arid to let their supervisors know whether they are prepared to pay their share.
The tax-burden issue that needs to be made clear here is, quite simply, one qf waste, of needless and excessive outlays of tax revenues. As our neighboring counties' have demonstrated, a landfill property located on suitable and carefully prepared land will be a minor sore on the Rappahannock landscape and the county budget. But a landfill hastily dumped in a wholly unsuitable site is certain to be a cancer that will poison the county and inflate its tax burden for decades.
Any property owner who doubts the scope of the raid now planned on his pocketbook needs only to look at the facts:
