True, there are lots of people, possibly the majority, who still don’t know anything about the proposed zoning ordinance. But, we maintain they don’t know much about the zoning ordinance that has been in place for 11 years, either.
And, if a referendum were to be held next November for people to plug the ordinance they prefer, the present or the proposed, people wouldn’t know much more than they do now. And what they now know, especially if they attended a community meeting, is a little more about what the proposed zoning ordinance will do and will not do for them. Residents also have offered input, and their needs are more likely to be met in the proposed zoning ordinance than via more piecemeal revisions of the ”73 Ordinance.
Fourth: In courtroom battles, outdated artillery loses the war. There’s no question we’d all prefer a zoning document written with the brevity and clarity of the Gettysburg Address. Fact is, a zoning document like that wouldn’t hold legal water any better than cupped hands, especially if challenged by monied interests.
