Of the 45 switching systems C&P will install this year, 26 will be remote switching modules (RSMs). RSMs, which are installed in less populated areas, serve as extensions of larger ESSs located in nearby urban or suburban areas.
C&P will invest $24 million this year in various lightguide projects throughout the state. The small cable, which contains a number of hair-thin glass fibers, transmits signals in digital pulses of laser-generated light.
Most of the lightwave cable installed in 1985 will serve to connect C&P’s switching centers.
