Monahan said that one of the findings that have to be made to issue a special use permit is that the use will not be hazardous, injurious or in conflict with the predominant character of the neighborhood. “I have the feeling personally as a board member that if you’re able to site your church into the hill as you would like to that it will blend in more harmoniously with the predominant character of the neighborhood,” Monahan said.
Peter Labovitz, owner of Rosewood Farm that is located near the proposed church site, said that he understood the difficulties involved with finding a site to meet the needs of a church. He also made suggestions that he asked the church members to consider if they do decide to build on the property.
“Iam concerned that the site itself is a very difficult, and will turn out to be, a very expensive site to build on,” Labovitz said. “For the membership of the church, I think they should seriously consider before embarking on it some of the extra costs that this particular site may have that maybe they can find a site where they might pay more for the land, but end up with considerably less cost.”
